I’m going to go out on a well-supported limb here and say that the Caribbean is the most culturally rich and diverse geographical area on the planet. I said it, the ENTIRE planet and nobody captures that spirit better than Style and Vibes a digital Caribbean Culture melting pot.
That’s not surprising though as their Chief Curator Mikelah Rose is not only from the Caribbean but has worked for some major Caribbean publications such as Tempo TV, JAMROCK Magazine and VP Records the fist and biggest music label dedicated to Caribbean music (reggae, dancehall and soca) founded by two notable Jamaicans Vincent Randy Chin and his wife Patricia Chin.
Style & Vibes is unique in that it’s not local and it doesn’t pretend to be, it’s particularly interested in telling Caribbean stories from the Diasporic perspective and why not? Mikelah it’s Editor in Chief and founder is the quintessential Jamerican, a very Jamaican girl living in a very metropolitan world attempting to bridge that gap between and at the same time having a dialogue about what navigating both spaces is like for first generation Caribbean folks.
The Blog is dedicated to Caribbean conversations around music, fashion, culture, travel, and the wider contribution of Caribbean creatives and creativity to Black culture globally but especially the black community in the States.
The platform has grown from journalism project back in college to a digital magazine and now a podcast where Mikelah sits down with the movers and shakers of that culture both living in and outside the Craibbean as well as sometimes sharing her own thoughts on whats happening in that space.
There’s also a store where you can pick up Style & Vibes merch like their signature Style & Vibes t-shirt or sweatshirt.
What I’m most excited about though is the Style and Vibes meetup coming later this year where Caribbean Creatives locally and in the Diaspora link up to chat, exchange ideas and who knows what can come of it hopefully some dope multicultural Caribbean collabs? Yes Please!!!
Keep in touch with Style & Vibes on social media.
